For the last two years, Dr. Ernie Frey along with his wife and three daughters has been a SIM missionary working in Ethiopia as a Pastoral Ministries and Leadership Trainer with the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC). The EKHC is the largest Ethiopian evangelical denomination with 8 million members and 8,000 churches. Prior to serving in Ethiopia, Dr. Frey earned his Ph.D in Missiology and served as a Senior Pastor of both a small church and a mega-church in the United States, most recently at Central Church in Memphis, TN. While in Ethiopia, he partnered with the National Discipleship Director of the EKHC where they coordinated the African Strategic Discipleship Summit in January of 2013that brought 90 African leaders from 24 countries and 50 denominations to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the purpose of mobilizing a movement of discipleship in all nations. Ernie greatly desires to equip pastoral leaders and believes that denominational discipleship has the potential of greatly accelerating the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Ernie has transitioned back to the Houston area for a season for the purpose of developing and expanding the African and Global Strategic Discipleship Movement. Discipleship IS the biggest global need of the church and only a coordinated effort between the church in the west and the global church will accomplish Jesus’ all-consuming passion of making disciples of all nations. He is available to meet with pastors and churches to mobilize movements of discipleship that connects Houston to the nations.
